The disfranchisement bill of 8*nator
Felder has bean set as a special order
for business for Thursday by the sen
ate, on motion of Senator Felder, who
brought up the queetlon at the opening
of the senate Tuesday morning. It had
been set as a special order of business
for Tuesday, hut It Is desired that It be
deferred until after the prohibition
fight In the house, which Is now occu
pying the attention of both branches.
Thl* bill. Introduced In the upper
house by Senator Felder, received fav
orable recommendation from the com
mittee on constitutional amendments.
It Is expected to have strong opposl
tlon In the senate.
Monday In the house Representative
Joe Hill Hall started a successful fight
by forcing the Williams disfranchise
ment bill back to committee, there to
be reconsidered with his own measure
along thla line. Inasmuch ns tho Wil
liams' bill embodies the views of Gov.
enter Smith and the Macon platform
recommendations, It brings shout an
Int-restlng situation.
It Is by no means assured now that
such a measure will b# enacted Into
law. It was one* of the paramount Is
sues of Governor Smith’s campaign,
and was mode a leading feature of thl
platform.
Out \vh*re Indifference does not ex*
let* opposition seem* to be aria inf to It.
Two of the atrongeat men In the sen
ate are known to be opposed to this
law. A hot fight la mire on both aids*
of the capitol on thla bill.
