MARKET THURSDAY TONED
UP BY HOT, DRY WEATHER.
New Orleans. July 26.—The Tlmes-Demo-
ernt says: “Continued hot, dry weather,
assisted by the vagaries of professional
machinations, toned up yesterday’s cotton
market and suggested a further spread of
general apprehension and anxiety over the
prospective crop out-turn. The ‘ weather
played the stellar role In the day’s drama,
but the audience was small enough. New
York's Increasing stock, now two-thirds of
the total amount of stock, has begun to
attract widespread attention because of
the popular belief that shorts Intend using
it as n club for tho purpose of battering
down the market on Monday next. Ini
tiated operators, however, have ln?en una
ble to discover any terror In such threats,
for the reason nt New York there Is some
thing more than carrying charges in the
premium at * which October !s held over
August, and the mills need more cotton of
splnnnble grades than ran be nicked up In
American markets today. At New Orleans
August contracts are being held at 12.63
and October at 12,21. Rut there la very
little cotton here, consumers having al
ready taken nil of the year’s receipts of
2,266,410 except a paltry 34,000 bales. At the
moment there is more than ordinary con
flict of opinion over the effect current weath
er Is having on the ultimate yield. Home
Texas correspondents any the high, dry
temperatures are surprising the boll weevil
and fast forcing the plaut to maturity.”—

Look for an active market In the

advise buying on any dip. Mr. Hard

The markets do not show the broad

Steels hesitate. Amalgamated does not
show the manipulation favorable to
higher prices, but all outside factors
point to favorable future development
and therefore seems to us to portend
a higher level and a more active mar

Town Tonics: The postponement of the
Harriiunii dividend action nnd the evident
desire of many recent purchasers to take
profits have given the hear party
the first opportunity they have had
ill some days to make an Impression on the

the case of those good Issues that have not

profits before the present bull market
“inches Itn culmination.
Commission house interests a little more
brisk, but It can not be said that there lias
been any great amount of public buying.
This, however, will llkelv come later on
