Gov. and Mrs. Smith Entertain Yeung Psopls
The reception given Tuesday evening
by Governor and Mr*. Moke Smith at
the gubernatorial munition wa* a beau
tiful compliment to Ml** Miller, of
Macon, and Mi** Laura Candler, of
Decatur, two very charming and at
tractive young girl*. The refreshing
change In the temperature made the
evening an Ideal one for a midsummer
fete. Two hundred guests among the
unmarried aoclal contingent enjoyed
the very cordial hospitality of Gov
ernor and Mrs. Smith and their attrac
tive daughters. Innumerable colored
electric lights made picturesque the
Mpacious ground*, being caught In the
branches of the trees and outlining the
wide veranda*.
Settee* nnd chairs were placed under
the great tree* und an orchestra ren
dered an enjoyable program during the
hours of the reception.
The decoration* In the mansion were
especially elaborate and effective. In
the hallways large palms produced a
tropical effect, with the arches draped
with sprays of Southern sinllax. White
hydrangeas were placed in the red und i
blue rooms, combined with ferhs and
other potted plants. Pink Japanese
lilies formed the unusual floral deco
ration of the handsome dining room.
The centerpiece on the tabic was a bas
ket fllled with these blooms, the han
dles of which were tied with white
tulle. Cut glass nnd silver dishes held
confections In white and green tints,
and the candelabra had white and sil
ver shades.
Governor and Mrs. Smith received
their guests In the blue room, and were
assisted by Miss Miller, Miss Candler,
Miss Mary Brent Hmlth and Misses
Alice Steele. Katharine Gholstin. Fran
ces Gray. Elizabeth Wadi, Helen Payne
nnd Mis* Mamie Lumpkin, of Athens.
Mrs. Smith wore a handsome toilet of
wMte mull, lace trimmed. Miss Miller’s
costume was of cream colored lace net.
Miss Candler wore a becoming toilet of
pale blue rnu|l and lace. Miss Smith's
gown wa* a lovely creation of chiffon
and lace, nnd Miss Lumpkin wore pale
pink chiffon over pink satin.
The other member* of the receiving
party wore beautiful white lingerie
gowns.
. A delightful supper was served dur
ing the evening.

Mrs. J. 8. Owens entertained nt a
large bridge party Wednesday morning
at her homo on Peachtree View, the
occasion being one of the delightful
events of the week.
The house was prettily decorated
with palms nnd ferns and the dining
room, where, after the game, delicious
refreshments were served, the color
scheme was yellow. The centerpiece
was a cut glass vase filled with black-
eyed Susans. The Ices and bonbons
were also In yellow.

The marriage came as an agreeable
surprise to the many friends of Mr. and
Mrs. Girardeau. It occurred at the
handsome home of Mr. and Mrs. Wll
son on Washington street. The two
parlors, reception hall, sitting room and
dining room were all thrown Into one,
and furnished In white. The decora
tions were ferns and evergreens.
Miss Jessie Flanders, sister of. the
L-rlde, played the wedding march.
As Dr. Dickey performed the cere
mony, "Remember Me” was softly ren
dered.
Only the immediate relatives of the
couple and a few friend* were present.
Mrs. Girardeau wore a lovely cham
pagne colored toilet of voile with hat,
shoes and gloves to match.
Immediately after the ceremony the
bride’s father, having announced the
benediction, Mr. and Mrs. Girardeau
left for Jamestown. Washington, New
York and other points of Interest.
