m THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN AND NEWS. Peacock School For Boys Will Occupy This Building for Fall Term. WEDNESDAY. JULY 31, Oft PEACOCK SCHOOL FOR BOYS, r Where Each Pupil Receives Individual Attention, . 1 Moves to Handsome Quarters on Forrest Avenue. From the Educational Di rectory of Scribner’s Maga zine, which discusses the private school, there follows a summary of the defects which Peacock’s School has successfully overcome: “The public school i3 of necessity a machine. Tha individuality of the pupil i3 absolutely lost in the crush of numbers. The teachers are required to advance their classes so many pages by a certain time, and the bright pupils cover the ground; the others are stunted mentally by lack of assimilation. When a fath er sends his son to school, he wants him train ed, he cares nothing for the class, the Beard or the “city pride,” but ho wants the best there i3 in the boy brought out. This cannot be done by wholesale. Hence the demand for good private schools where the pupil is the unit.” Peacock’s School sent last year 17 boys to college, two going as high as New York. Peacock’s School for Boys will move September to 33 Forrest Avenue, in a two and a half story brick build ing of 15 rooms. The build ing has hardwood finish, hot air furnace, spacious, hand some and complete in all its appointments to suit the most fastidious. Professor Peacock, ten years ago, opened with the small number of three boys. In a modest way, by skill and good management, and by the aid of the many At lanta friends and patrons, his work has reached the hundred enrollment mark- in a building so inadequate, even to the point of being positively objectionable, that his friends wonder at his success. With no finan cial aid, no help but the work Peacock’s School has done, the School has reached a high point, and now has the financial backing to sustain its position. Enterprises that do well are generally marked by some leading thought to which other things are made subservient. Peacock’s School has made this the su preme idea: “Individual ity,” small classes, individ ual attention, only a few pupils for one teacher.
