Will Be Located In Peach
tree, Near Tenth St.,
In a Short Time.
On the recommendation of Postmas
ter E. F. Blodgett, the department
Wajhlngton has authorised the estab
llahment of a sub-postofflca In Peach
tree street near Tenth, and the new
office will be open to the public
October 1.
This comes about because of a petl
tlon sent to Postmaster Blodgett some
time ago by the residents In that neigh
berhood. He made an Investigation
and decided a sub-station was needed
there as badly as In West End and he
recommended this to Washington.
The new station will be known as
Station C and will be located In the
store occupied by Wllkerson Brothers,
Space In the store, 18 by 35 feet, has
been secured and this will be fitted up
with everything necessary for a post,
office.
Postmaster Blodgett will start the
carriers serving that part of the city
from the new aub-postofflce and somo
of the rural mall carriers will begin
their trips there, and In this manner
a two-mlle trip to the center of the
city will be saved.

R. E. MIMS DEAD
AT CLAYTON, GA.
News has reached this city of the
death In Clayton, Ga., Tuosday night of
R. E. Mims, a former resident of At
lanta, and a relative of Major Living,
ston Mims,'former mayor.
While In Atlanta Mr. Mims was In
the lumber business, but for several
years past he has been an orange
grower In Florida. He went to Clayton
for hta health. The body will pass
through the city Wednesday night, ar
riving here at 8 o'clock, en route to
Florida, where the funeral and Inter
ment will take place.

IN COLLISION

Chicago, Aug. 1.—Nina firemen were
seriously Injured by smoke and dames
and many more were Injured by live
wires today In the plant of the Mon
arch Leather Company. The fire ,gave
the department one of the derceat
battles it has had In months to keep It
from spreading. The dre was caused
by the explosion of a gasoline engine.

Order of United American Mechanics
of Georgia wll hold their annual con
vention m Barneevl'.le on Tuesday and
Wednesday, September 10 and 11.
There will probably be 200 delegates

Work Is being rapidly pushed on the
new building of the Atlanta, Birming
ham and Atlantic railroad and It la an
nounced that the building will be ready
for occupancy by October 1. The build
ing Is built along the same design of
the Electric and Gas building, but had
five stories. Tbs auburjtan cars of the
Atlanta Northern railway will be run
In the building and It will be used as a
terminal. As soon as completed, the
birildljig will house all the officials of

eral grand jury for the Western dlvl

mony yesterday In the case of the gov
ernment against the Standard Oil Com
pany, the New York Central and the
Pennsylvania Railroad companies. The
Jury adjourned until next Friday, when
Judge Haxel will receive the Jury's re.

formed by several well-known Atlan
tans and the result will be excellent
exhibitions of this kind In the future.
There will be three night exhibitions
during the coming state fair, although
there will be no connection between

Barney. Ga. Aug. 7.—Rev. W. G.
Allaban has closed one of the most
successful series of meetings at the
Methodist church that has ever been
held at this place. Rev. C. D. Adams,
of Sylvanla, has assisted in these meet
ings. Twenty-four members were re
ceived In the church. Melt Rusten, of
Liberty county, had charge of the sing
ing.

TRAVELING MEN
FOR CANDLER BILL
The Georgia division of the Travel
ers' Protective Association, through
(he state board of directors, has come
out In favor of the Candler bill which
gives more power to the state rail
road commission. At a meeting of the
directors on Saturday night, resolu
tions heartily indoretng the bill were
passed.
The resolutions point out that to
make the railroad commission more
effective. It Is necessary to give that
body more authority and to Increase
the membership. The resolutions close
by Indorsing the bill and urging its
passage.

This honeymoon message from Mrs.
Frank Elms, cf Findlay, to her mother,
Mrs. J. M. Davidson, was followed yes
terday by a telegram from the husband
saying his bride had accidentally killed
herself. He Is 'held by the police at
Los Angeles, Cal., where the tragedy
occurred. He waa the fourth husband
of the bride, though her first sweet
heart.

TERRORIZED VILLAGE
Murphyaboro, 111., Aug. 7.—Word waa
tecelved yesterday from Fordyce, n
village ten miles west of here that a
gang of rioting Italians had control
of the town, and Sheriff Hanson and
pome to the scenes.
A messenger from Fordyce states
that Sheriff Hanson has suppressed the
rioting Itallanibnd has made seventeen
arrests.

AT MONTE CARLO
Naples. Aug. 7.—A Mr. and Mrs.
Buckingham, who came from New
York, committed suicide by taking
poison at Castellomare today. The
reason for the act was th&t they had
austalned serious gambling losses at
Monte Carlo..
