A pretty party was that at which
Miss Martha K. Smith entertained In
compliment to Miss Johnson and Miss
Miller. Cards were played, and at the
conclusion of the game a delicious
luncheon was served. Mrs. J. A. Bryan
gave last week In honor of Miss John
son and her guest a house party which
opened with a brilliant reception. Re
ceiving with Mrs. Bryan were Miss
Johnson, Miss Miller, Messrs. Ralford
Persons and Thomas Persons, Jr.
Punch wns served by Miss Sara Robins.
Miss Miller wore white mull and blue
ribbons. Miss Johnson wore white

ing Miss Johnson gave a merry hay
ride. Afterward a watermelon cutting
was enjoyed on the lawn of Miss John

available spot, and the score cards
were hand-painted daisies. The first
prise was a dainty pair of armlets,
and the consolation was a hat pin. The
honor guest was presented with a
beautiful fan. The young hostess re
ceived her guests In a pretty dress of
white and yellow mull. Miss Parks
and her guest were In white mull and
lace.

An engagement of national Impor
tance has been announced. It Is that
of Miss Elizabeth Gilmer Tyler, of
Williamsburg, Va.. youngest daughter
of President Lyon O. Tyler, of Willlum
and Mary College, and Midshipman
Alfred Hart Miles, United Stales navy,
who Is now serving aboard the battle
ship Kentucky.
Miss Tyler, who le first cousin of
Mrs. T. Gardner Foster, of Montgom
ery, Is a granddaughter of President
John Tyler, and of Thomas Gilmer, at
one time secretary of the navy. Mr.
Miles Is a graduate of the Naval Acad
emy last spring. He is a son of the
late Charles R. Miles, lieutenant In the
United States navy.
