rather more of the early gain. The Imme
diate effect of the Erie dividend announce
ment wns fsvorahle so far ns the Erie Is
sues wore concerned. The first preferred
stock rote • point and the second sold on a
few transactions 6 points above the last
previous transaction. On the list as a
whole It seemed doubtful whether the Inci
dent was helpful. There was more criticism
than praise for the action which, under tho
special circumstances of Erie's financial po
sition. could scarcely be regarded aa con
servative.
