Georgia, may bo retained in command,
but It Is doubtful. His date of retire
ment Is only six years hence.

Tuesday morning for the Arst time
In his legal career, Capt. W. D. Ellis,
now Judge Ellis, of the superior court,
presided as Judge over a real court In
a real court room, attended by court
officers and waited upon by a score of
attorneys. For the present, end until
the completion of his new court 'room
on the ground floor of the court house
annex, he Is sitting In the room of the
city court, second division^ which is
occupied by Judge Calhoun when hear
ing civil business. < Judge Ellis’ work
Tuesday was the 'hearing of motions.
The opening of tho September term
of court. Tuesday, after the vacation,
brought almost a thousand people to
the court house, and Its recently
emptied halls were packed. Judge
Pendleton, of the superior court,
charged tho grand Jury and then took
up civil business. Judge Calhoun,' of
the city court, criminal branch, took
up the usual routine of misdemeanor
cases, most of which were against no
groes. He announced that all wit'
nesses Interested In cases where the
defendants were out on bond would
be excused until Thursday. In the
meantime he will dispose of the Jail
cases. Ills docket Is unusually heavy,
owing to an early adjournment at the
last term.
Judge Reid, of the civil branch of
the city coutt, was engaged for the
most part in hearing small damai
stilt* and the like. The ordlnar}
court was busy with tho usual routine.

against every person caught so doing.
The new street flasher was bought largely
