Joliet. 111., Sept. 12.—Sir boya who
attempted to steal a ride on the limited
train on the Santa Fe reached here
after an exciting experience. One of
them, Robert Bullock, whose home is
In Richmond, Va. sustained n fracture
of the skull ami may not recover. The
other boya rove the names of Edward
Smith, James Brady. Harry Jones, Leo.
He Atcldeon and Robert Amt*, and de
clared that thelt homes are In Cincin
nati.
They climbed on the train ns It was

roof of the nrst car. When the train
attained full speed after leaving the
city limits, the boys narrowly esca|ied
being tossed over the edge and man

difficulty.

could stand It no longer, attempted to

Winston-Salem, N. C„ Sept. 12.—J.
W. Joyner, conductor of a freight train
between this city and Charlotte, was
killed Instantly at Mooresvllle, Va.,
yesterday. He was swinging from a
car when a train entered the Moorea-
ville yard. His head struck a telegraph
pole and he was thrown under the
train. His body waa horribly mangled.
Before leaving his home yesterday
morning Joyner left a letter for his
wife, who Is it years hla Senior, telling
her that he would not live with her any
longer.

South Haven, Mich.. Sept. 12—A bun
dled thousand dotar fire Wednesday de
stroyed th* Avery Beach, the Jargest
summer resort along the east shore;
the Breaker*, the Shanty, the Gray
Bird, Garretts, The Walton nnd Del-
mar. The fire started In the Breakers
from an unknown cause, and swept by
a strong wind levelled all the resorts
along the bench. The different resorts
were crowded with guests, but they all
escaped without Injury.

Columbus, On., Sept. 12.—Judge J. B.
Burnside, of Hamilton, Harris county,
was In tho city today. Judge Burnside
was asked about the rumor that eon.
necled his name with the solocllorshlp
of the Chattahoochee clreult.
He snld he had been approached by
several of his friends on the subject,
but was not ready to make Bn an
nouncement. It Is believed, however,
that Judge Burnside will be In the
race.
He Is noted for the fact that a strong
effort was made at the recent session
of the legislature to abolish the elty
court of Hamilton. The matter took
up the time of that body for several
moons, but the measure was defeated.
So far, George C. Palmer, court
stenographer of the circuit, Is tne only
avowed candidate for the t>lace.

COUNTYMUST PAY
EXPENSES OF COURT

Griffin, On., Sept. 12.—When tho
Spalding superior court closed Tues
day evening, a sensation wns sprung
when It was learned that the grand
Jury had recommended that the county
commissioner* pay the expenses of the
lost term of the city court, but that no
further court be held until the supreme
court has passed on the points In the
city court bill recently passed by the
legislature, and that fines be held up till
that time.
The grand Jury also recommended
that a general election be held for local
school taxation, and the sheriff was
censured by that body for extravagance
In the manner of conducting courts In
this county.

Macon. Go., Sept. 12.—Alleging that
the receivers of the Exchange -Bank
have failed to pay him the 20 per cent
dividend ordered paid to all depositors
and tljnt they claim to nold a note for
11,000 against him, which they wish
him to pay with Interest, I. Bashlnskl
has filed a petition for Injunction and
relief In his Intervention In the case of
A. Schofield et al. against the Ex-'
chaiigfi Bank.
Judge Whipple ordered that the peti
tioner be made a party In the cose nnd
set the first Monday In November as
the time for the receivers to show why
the petition should not be granted.
Mr. Bashlnskl stated that he signed
a note of J1.000 for ex-Cashler C. M.
Orr In January Inst, nml It Is on this;
note payment Is now demanded.

ing of the Macon Chamber of Com
merce, held Wednesday evening, the
resignation of Secretary Eugene An
derson was accepted, add D. J. Jny
was elected to till the vacancy.
Mr. Anderson has served Macon In
tho position ns secretary of the Cham
ber of Commerce for a long number of
years, and during that time has done a
great deal of good for the city.
A committee of three, consisting of
Mr. Emmett Small, Mr. T. J. Sim
mons and Mr. Arthur Dasher, were ap
pointed to draw up resolutions on the
death of the late Mr. N. B. Corbin, who
l director of the Chamber of
Commerce.

husband would not stay home and mind
the baby while she went to the park,
Annie Jordan, a negro woman, horse
whipped him. Annie Insisted upon go
ing to the park and so did her hus
band, and when he started to leave the
house she beat him unmercifully. An
nie was arrested and fined 12.60.

tee of the board of trustees of the Geor
gia Masonic Home have been much
exercised over the admission to the
home of four Inmates considered In
sane. Plans have been made to have
them transferred at once to the state
asylum. They will be given a hearing
tomorrow before Ordinary Wiley.

Wilmington, N. C„ Bept. 12.—The re-
malna of I. M. Baer, aged 35. who died
of nervous prostration at the 8hephard
Pratt Sanitarium, near Baltimore,
reached Wilmington thlb morning. The
funeral was held this afternoon from
the reeldenee of his brother, Henry C.
Bner.
Mr. Baer le survived by hla wife,
who was Mlse Sadie Elias, of Raleigh,
and by two brothers.

time the Stars and Stripes were flout
ed shove the new' Federal building
yesterday afternoon. There wns no
brass band or a great clapping of hands
when the ling was raised, but the work
men about tbe building quit work for a
few minutes while the llug raising was
going on.
