Lochren, of the United States court.
Issued an order yesterday for an In
junction which absolutely ties up the
state's commodity rate law pending a
Anal decision In the case, or until the
lower court's decision is overruled on
appeal by the state.
Not only Is everybody enjoined “from
taking or Instituting or causing or ad
vising to be Instituted any action, suit,
stop or proceeding for the violation of
said act, but anybody and everybody is
enjoined from demanding that any of
the rates contained In the act be given
them."
It Is reported that the state officials
are planning to violate the Injunction
In such manner that habeas corpus pro
ceedings will have to he instituted. In
which event the case will at once be ap
pealed to the United States supreme
court, and the whole matter determin
ed there Instead of going through the
usual routine, lasting probably three
years,

EIGHT INJURED
IN MINE CAGE
Morristown, Pn., Sept. 24.—Eight
Hungarian miners who were being low*,
ered Into the shaft of the Wharton Iron
Mines, at Upper Hibernia, were pre
cipitated suddenly into the shaft. AU
were Injured, two of them so seriously
thgt they will die. While at his throt

Rooney, the engineer, fainted.

the police got a clew to a crap game
that was going on near the Junction.
A party entered the fee plant and found
eleven negroes, safely locked In the old
Ice storage box, all intent on the game.
After a time the fireman of the plant
opened the door and started to attend
his duties, only to find himself and
companions confronted with the offi
cers.

Macon. Ga., Sppt. 24.—Brannan St.
Clair, a negro, who appeared ns the
chief witness against Jim Hall and
George Sims, negroes, on Saturday
last, nnd were hound over for burglary,
was tridd yesterday before Recorder
Cabantss and was also bound over un
der 1500 bond for the sattif offense. It
is charged that the three broke Into a
stand on Fourth street nnd stole a
quantity of Jewelry and other valuables.
Part of the Jewelry has been recovered
from a woman.

by wire wrecks In which passengers or
employees are killed. The new rule
becomes operative October i. The or
der rends as follows:
“All railroad accidents of any nature,
whatever, to persons or to property,
whether Injury Is done or not, shall be
reported to the railroad commission ut
Baton Rouge In writing within ten days
after the accident occurs, setting forth
specifically the cause of the accident,
the place and time of the same and tho
extent of loss or Injury, when any oc
curs to passengers, employees or prop,
erty. Provided, that all accidents to
trains In which passengers or em
ployees are Injured or killed, shall be
reported Immediately by wire and later

year ending September 1, 1907, taxes
for the county and state were collected
by Albert S. Jones from the railroads,
amounting to $24,829.11.' Tlie total In
solvency list amounted to $2,263.54, a
very respectable showing, when the
number of property owners Is taken

The total receipts of Collector Jones

were $167,029.45.

vised that he leave New York for his

Macon, Sept. 24.—The remains of
Mrs. Sarah J. Smith, who died at an
early hour Monday morning, were ship
ped to Camack, Ga., where the funeral
services nnd Interment will take place.
Mrs. Smith was well known In Macon,
having lived In this city the greater
part of her life. She was the wloow of
the late Duncan J. Smith and Is sur
vived by five grandchildren.

E. Jay, of the Macon chamber of com
merce, has received no reply from the
Southern Railroad Company to his let

gard to the Macon sleeper to New York
city. However, if an answer is not re
ceived within the next several days Mr.
.lay stated that he would again write
I the railroad people reminding them of
his last letter. The people*of Macon
are up in'arms OVer the New York

to secure it.

chamber of commerce and board of
trade are now talking about consoli
dating. If they do the present quar
ters of the chnmh^r of commerce win
be moved to those ot the board of trade
on Fourth street, which are plenty large
for both. At the last meeting of the
chamber of commerce the matter of se
curing new quarters was brought up
and since that time Secretary Z. E. Jay
has been on the look-out for suitable
rooms.
WINE ROOM RAIDED

Macon, Ga., Sept. 24,—J. W. Griffon
was bound over to the city court yes
terday by Recorder Cabanls* charged
with keeping a tippling house open -»n
Sunday. Bond was fixed at 1250.
A wine room was raided by Officer
Watson und GrilTen, It is charged, was
In charge of the room at the time the
raid was made.
Several white men and women were
found In the house at the time and all
were given fines.
