‘‘There’s a Reason.’
Read "The Road to
Wellville,” in pkgs. It’s
a little, gem on right
living,
Within a week or ten days an official
announcement may be expected from
Sehborn Wright, of Rome, as to wheth
er or not he will be a candidate for the
United States senatorshlp.
Mr. Wright Is now In Florida making
prohibition speeches and he Is expected
to be absent from tho state the re
mainder of this week. On his return It
Is more than probable that Mr. Wright
will Immediately announce his Inten
tions.
Somo weeks ago a prediction was
made In these columns that Senator
A. S. Clay would have opposition. Fur
ther. that If It was not Governor Smith
It would bo Seaborn Wright. That pre
diction Is still good In the Judgment of
people who watch the trend of events.
That Governor Smith has made up
his mind to continue In the governor-
ehlp for a second term, Is believed all
over the state. A recent editorial in a
paper known to represent the govern
or's views and policies In many things,
has strengthened the belief that he has
relinquished the Idea of running for the
United States senate.
Whether or not this Is a correct view
of tho governor’s position. It Is sure
that hundreds of people over the stato
firmly believe so. And with Governor
Smith removed from the list of possi
bilities, attention centers on Seaborn
Wright, tho brilliant orator from Floyd.
Mr. Wright Is known to have ambi
tions to sit In the United States senate.
For months tho Rome papers have been
advocating him for tho senatorshlp, but
Mr. Wright has maintained silence on
the subject Thoae close to him say
that ho has been watting for Governor
Smith’s decision.
At any rate, Romans say that Mr.
Wright will definitely announce his in
tentions In a short while. In tho mean
while Senator Clay Is not letting the
grass grow under.his feet Ho Is not
saying much In the public prints, but he
Is saying It directly to tho people pretty
nearly every working day.
If Seaborn Wright should get Into the
race Georgia will ece some red hot poll
tics for tho next several months.
