phlcogo, Oct. 19.—A warning to
American cotton growers that cotton
gambling nnd attempts to maintain
prices at an abnormally high level will
result ultimately in the crippling of
the country’s 1 cotton export trade, was
sounded by C. W. Macara at a banquet'
given at the Auditorium.
“There Is need for co-operation, and
we hope that as a result of the confer
ence held In Georgia wo will be brought
In closer touch with the Industry here.
We buy annually cotton valued at
*600,000,000, when manufactured repre
sents *3,000,000,000. American growers
should improve their methods. We In
the past have had to complain about
American cotton that Is carelessly
grown. Cotton gambling Is another
evil that acts against friendly relations
for grower and manufacturer, but I
hope our visit has not been In vain.”

HONEY DISPLAY
AT STATE FAIR
Every one who attends the State
Fair now In progress should not miss
the opportunity to visit the tine dis
play of honey under the superinten
dence of J. J. Wilder, of Cordele, Ga.
This display not only shows this most
toothsome product In all Its different
forms, but the whole arrangement Is
made with artistic skill and taste.
When It Is known that Mr. Wilder
haa five apiaries each, composing from
65 to 125 colonies, and producing In
tha aggregate tone of honey and 300
to 500 pounds of wax, aonle Idea can
be formed a* to what extent thl* Im
portant Industry can be carried, and
the money value of this much negeict-
ed product. Illustrating, as It does, one
of the great resources of the South.
The marvelous progress made In
honey making since the old square
box and "bee gum” was In vogue, and
brimstone sounded the death knell for
the Industrious bee, may best be In
dicated by viewing some of the appli
ances now In use to produce honey as
well as to save the lives of the honey
producer.
