OFFICIALS DIFFER
ON USE OF PARK
Mayjtr Pro Tem. Qullllan, speaking
of the proposal to tear down some of
Ihe buildings at Piedmont Park and
bar th# fair association from using It
for.fair purposes, said Monday morn*
Ing:
“I think the city should either quit
spending money trying to beautify
Piedmont Park or cease turning It
over to the fair asaodatlon to be torn
up. Last spring an appropriation was
made by council to have grass planted,
walks laid and other Improvement#
made. Thl# fall the fair association
took charge, and the crowds, I under
stand. have trampled down the gras*
and otherwise Injured the park. ‘
Councilman Walter Taylor believes
that It should be turned Into a pleas
ure park only. If practicable.
"If th# new cemetery Is located at
Lakewood the fair might be held out
there. It. Is a beautiful place, with
the lake and other natural advan
tages."
Mayor Joyner is opposed to tearing
down the buildings at the fair grounds.
"If ihe people want the fair," he
said, "that Is as good a place to havu
It as I know of. I do not believe thnt
the fall- Injures the park to any ex
tent."
