of stronger cablet from Liverpool and re
port* of n sever© storm at Galveston, the
local cotton market upeued firm at an ad
vance of 7 to 9 points. The list was sus
tained for aome time after the call despite
the fact that there was heavy pressure from
local sources.
Liverpool advices were encouraging to the
bulls Wednesday morning. Advances of 166
K olnts on the near and 2ff2% points would
ffve been a full response to 4he better

ment over the opening, prices leaving off 8

Shorts were responsible for yesterday’s re
coveries. Technically, the cotton market
was in an uncertain position, with loo
many hears. Fears that the farmer nod
planter would he frightened by the deviln-

did not encourage hulls and brought about
indiscriminate short selling. The sharp ral*
lies late yesterday and this morning In
Uverpool Is a result of this oversold con

en up prices any. Reports are coming from
various quarters of tue market to the ef
fect that stocks are gradually accumulat
ing with dealers. Yarns which were con
tracted for Mime time ngo by dealers nre
beginning to |»o delivered by spinners, or
,siul knitters seem'to have enough on band
st the present time to carry them.
Spinners ure still holding out for prices
which are considerably above those obtain
able In this market, and will eontlnno to do
so. It Is believed, as long ns they have
enough orders on Imml to keep their plants
running. Fine counts show further weak
ness. as there is practically nothing doing
on these numbers. Other prices nre very Ir
regular. according to the quarter of the mar-
ket in which they are quoted.
In some quarters prices ou the same
counts show a difference of fully , i6V.
due to the Stork that the seller haptiens
to have ou hand. Several spinners have
been In the market during the past few
days for the purpose of slslng up the situa
tion. Some are reported to have come
down In their price Ideas after finding out
conditions prevailing to be worse than
they expected.
Print Cloths Move Slowly.
Except for purchases of regulars there
was very little doing Monday In the print
cloth market. Several of the large selling
agencies have been able to sell spots In
