January was also 4 points lower at the
opening at 10.09, advanced to 10.13, declined
to 10.04 and at noon was selling at Thurs
day* close—10.13.
Trading was dull, due mainly to the hold-

Luring the afternoon trading, the market
turned*wry firm and a sharp advance took

Reports coining forward from Philadel
phia and other yarn markets are not encour
aging. Stocks are said to be still accumu
lating In dealers' hands, with demand very
slow. The only encouraging report cnrulnjf
from manufacturing quarters Is to the ef
fect that some of the mills ore getting very
short of yarn and must shortly come Into
the market for the purpose of replenishing
their stocks. Weaving plants have very
large orders on hand fflr next spring de
livery, ntid these goods must lie turned out.
On the knitting yarns reports are not so
favorable ns the fall season on the finished
goods for next year Is at a standstill, and
orders are not being booked very freely
for next spring.
Narrow Goods Sales Reported,
It Is reported In the district that several
sates of narrow print cloths were nut
through yesterday on a basis of *c below
the previously lowest price on this class of
gray goods. The 4*c quoted ns the Selling
price of 28-Inch 64x60a In these transactions
Is considered ns low a figure as buyers can
look for. Regulars still hold firm at 6*c.
Ou wide gray goods the market yesterday
showed little activity. Standards ure quoted
at 6*c for spqt and 6*c on future delivery

exports being a little above the official es
timate. The report of acreage this year Is
with nn Increase of 240 hectares*, which,

tares, Indicates 175,000,000 for the crop which
is now ripening.”

the Register (newspaper) estimates this
year’s hbent crop at 14.500.000 bushels. This

WEATHER CONDITIONS.

of the map, with Its crest extending from
Maine southwest Into Mississippi. The
northwestern low area has moved north
