President P. S. Arkwright, of the
Georgia Railway and Electric Company,
was In conference with the railroad
commission Friday for more than an
hour.
When he came out he was simllng
pleasantly. He was asked:
"Old the cAmmlsslon Infprm you that
your car company was to be placed on
a basis of six fares for a quarter?" .
■'No,' 'was the reply. "You might ask
them what about It."
Membors of the commission were em
plmtlc In their declaration that no dls
cusslon of any proposition to, put the
local ear lines on a six for "25 cents
basis had taken place.
It was pointed out that fn the formal
hearing on the Terrell petition some
days ago that the question of the juris,
diction of the commission over the
Georgia Railway and Electric Company
arose. It was held then that until this
matter was fully and finally determined
that It would be folly to go Into any
discussion of the right or justice of re
duclng car fares.
For the purpose of determining the
exact powers of the company under the
original charter grant of 1869, a hear
ing was fixed for November 12. If It Is
found that the street car people can
legally stand on this, then the matter
will be dropped.
That the commission will shortly Is
sue orders abolishing telephone and
telegraph franks Is taken as a matter of
course, as It will conform to the orders
abolishing railroad and electric car
passes and express franks.
