The Liverpool market sells lower this

cotton goods manufacturer* appears to be
the rule. Actlou by the Noutbern mills !u
convention and Individual action iu New

another downward swing in cotton prices
ami a final letting go by farmers and plant

From a scalping market as heretofore we

New York. Nov. 15.-J. K Bacbe ft Co.:
Loudon prices for Americans weak, %01 per
cent below parity. New York Central and
Illinois Central are the only exceptloua,
both showing advances. General London
market also weak and consols 5-l8d lower at
81%.
There seems to be doubt about securing
gold in Paris for export to America.
Liquidation continued yesterday on pretty
heavy scale. St. Paul nnd Pennsylvania
were conspicuous during the better part of
the session, and the weakness In these
standard stocks soon extended to the whole
Rat. Currency demand reported ns falling
off. aud this was regarded ns one of the
hopeful signs. Curtailment in all branches
of trade still going on, various plants clos
ing on account of money stringency.
The nnirket may experience further pres
sure today, Imt no serious break la looked

BY T. C. SHOTWELL.
New York. Nov. 15.—Liquidation In tbl
stock market continued today, with tho re
mit that during the first hoar of trading
uew low records were made by 8t. Paul,
United States Steel preferred and New
York Central, while otner gilt-edged securi
ties declined from 1 to 2 points. St. Paul’s
new low bottom waa made at 97. while
A’tecl preferred touched the low level of 8%.
New York Central broke to 94. Announce-
ment that the New York Central wotild dw
some financing in the near future caused
that stock to decline 2% points.
Further engagements of gold for Import
were auonunecd. which brings the total of
tho movement up to $65,101,819.
Berlin and Loudon sold American stocks
In London on the report that about $5,70V
000 additional gold was to be shipped to
New York very shortly. *AU American
shares there, with the exception of New
York Central, showed declines averaging 1
point.
Wheat was fractionally lower, as waa cst-
ton.
The curb market was very weak,' Gold
field shares declining sharply.
The financial situation continued to pre
sent the same contradiction this morning
that It 1ms for some days past, outside
the stock exchange 'conditions seem to be
on th© mend. The coming gold sufficed to
offset the week's previous loss at the sub-
treaaurr. The local currency premium drop
ped off so sharply that It almost reached
tho vanishing fsoint. Money rates, despit©
tho fact that loans made today carry ovci*
the end of the week, were quoted below
tho recent average. Inside the stock mar*
ket. however, liquidation went ou perils-*
teiitiy enrying prices down without any
Interruption nml causing exciting weakness.
Tills selling was explained, as In the cas©
of yesterday, an dno to the exigencies of
tho financial conditions at outside points.
In tho cas© of New York Central, the an*
nouucement tlint frlan* were being conaldJ
erod for a new security Issue was undoubt
edly responsible for the special wcaknesg
In this stock. In the case of Bmelters ana
Sugar, In which the declines were ilsR
particularly severe, tho explanation com
monly given waa the selling out of loans.
But, taking the list as a whole, the pres
sure to sell was continuous, and what
ever attempts there were at support were
designed rather to moderate tb© downward
movement than to check It.
