ing influenced by rumors of a strike among

It was rumored at about noon that
Neill Bros., of England, would Issue
Wednesday a crop estimate of the
crop at 11,600,000 with consumption
12.000,000 bales, but was without stim
ulating effect, the close being steady
net 1 point higher to 6 points lower.

necessity of curtailment. Cancellations of
contracts are asked by buyers on all sides,
but It has been decided to accept cancella
tions only tvbere there Is cause. Buyers
want, goods held until they'can pay for
them, and In some Instances 60 per cent of
the goods sold are held back awaiting de
livery.”
Spots are hardly a consideration In these
days of drastic news. Demand comes and
goes with advance or decline In futures.
Buyers are cautious now that futures are
steady. There Is some demand at steady
prices, but no aggressive demand. Good

covering for account of the bear leader.
However, there were other reports that the

option has finally been eliminated from

A TEMPORARY CONDITION.
New York Commercial: Merchants have
they can get in hand. Wholesalers' realise
that the business lull Is only a temporary
condition. The business done In the leading
Jobbing houses during the past week was

The eastern disturbance of Monday has
coast without regaining energy and rains
continued quite generally In the Atlantic
states. The plateau disturbance Is now orer
New Mexico with diminished Intensity, and
the rains and snows In that section have
practically ceased. There Is a third dis
turbance of very pronounced character over
tbe British northwest and tbe north Pacific
coast, but es yet without rain, except along
tbe south coast, and still a fourth storm In
tbe extreme lower Rio Grande which
Is attended by rain la the west gulf states
and some high winds on tbe Texas coast.
