The Toney saloon, at 6 South Broad street, will be converted Into a soda water establishment and cigar store after January 1 and will be operated by the present proprietors, E. H. Car roll & Co., who will hold the lease at the same rental as Is now paid. Sir. Carroll, head of the Arm, stated Tuesday morning that the store room would be (thoroughly renovated and re. modeled. Washington, Dec. 3.—In his anual re port to congress, presented today, At torney General Bonaparte calls atten tion to the enormous delay, expense and trouble brought about by the Inability of the officials under the anti-trust and Interstate commerce laws to act.ln furnishing legal proof of facts which are perfectly notorious, and which are merely formally denied to compel the production of such proof. He recommends that the law be so amended that a bench warrant of any United States court bo effective any where within the United States. IS E AT PIPING PUNT General Manager Parle Woodward has appointed C. W. Reid chief engl neer at the river pumping station of the waterworks to succeed Engineer Qramllng, who died severaf days ago. Mr. Reid was first engineer at the Hemphill station under Engineer Col lier. He has been with the waterworks for about fifteen years, and he Is re garded as a highly competent man. J R. Owens, a machinist at the Western and Atlantic shops, has been appointed to succeed Mr. Reid as first engineer at Hemphill station. LAYMEN TO MEET ON WEDNESDAY A meeting of the committee of 100 of tho laymen of the various protestant denominations in Atlanta, ln tho Inter est of the Laymen’s Missionary Move ment, will be held Wednesday after noon at 3 o’clock at the Aragon Hotel, At this time plans will be made- for raising the 3100,000 pledged for foreign missions next year. - This committee, of which Dr. Ma McH. Hull Ib chairman, consists of twenty members from the Baptists, twenty from the Methodists, twsrtv from the Presbyterians and ten each from the four other denominations. With the exception 6f a few names, this committee Is now complete mid every appointment will have been made by the time the committee meets Wed nesday afternooh. MARKLEY ELECTED.
