city council of Macon will hold Its
final meeting this evening: Mayor
Bridges Smith gives up the place he
has held eight years, and eleven of
the members of the council will retire.

Macon, Go., Dec. 10/—The flrst meet
ing of the stockholders of the new
Citizens' National Bank will be held in
the parlors of the Hotel Lanier, De
cember 18. The stockholders of the
bank at this meeting will choose the
directors who will in turn elect the
officers. 1
The new bank will open on January
15 In Its own building at the corner of
Cotton avenue and Cherry stroet with
a capital of $250,000, and when the bank
opens It will start with $250,000 of Its
own national bank notes.
The officers of the new bank will be
os follows: W. C. Stevens, president;
Joseph N. Neel and J. Clay Murphey,
vice presidents; Eugene W. Stetson,
cashier; Sanders Walker, Jr., and A.
B. Sims, assistant cashiers.
COMPANY BEGINS WORK
ON SECOND STEAMER.

Macon, Ga., Dec. 10.—Work on the
second steamer of the Macon-Bruns-
wlck steamship line was commenced
yesterday, when carpenters were *»et
to work building her keel. The new
boat will be larger than the Chappell,
and will be built with galvanized bolts
and nails. This will be done because
half of her trip will be through salt
water. The second boat will run from
Lumber City to Brunswick.

of Indiana, chairman of the Republican
National committee, now In town, said
that not only was Vice President Fair
banks In the race for the Republican
nomination, but that Indiana would
certainly send n delegation Instructed
for Fairbanks. Mr. New ridiculed the
stories which have come from Wash
ington that the selection of Chicago as
the place for the national convention
was a defeat in the national committee
for the Taft supporters.

the New York Central railroad, has
been placed on trial before Justice
Kellogg, In the supreme court, on a
charge of manslaughter In the second
degree, growing out of the wreck of
February, In which twenty-four per
sons lost their lives and sixty-seven
were injured. Gross negligence waa
charged In the Indictment.
