county, while the city of Albany will
be short $10,300 In Its revenue from
thla source. Dougherty county receives
no revenue from tho sale of whisky.
The above figures do not Inclade the
ail valorem taxe* pnl.l by the whisky
dealers on their stock* and fixtures.
A largo portion of the whisky busi
ness In Albany is conducted In con
nection with other Mines of business.
These dealers. In most cases, will con,
tlnuo business at their old stnnds, and
those who are not engaged In other
lines than whlaky are making arrange
ments to do so. ,
It Is true that Albany will lose some
of her citizens who are engaged In sell
ing whisky, but the majority of them
will continue to make this place their
home after state prohibition goes Into
effect on January 1, 1901.

members of a Southern train crew

election yesterday, Dr. w. li Wood was
elected mayor, receiving 103 votes more
than John Black, who comet second In
the race.
The councllmen elected were F. A
Hamilton, Tom lllll and Isaac Finley,
Right hundred votes were polled. Dr.
Wood received $00, John Block 265, and
Dr. 8. J. MrKnlght 170.
For councllmen the vote waa Hamil
ton 510. Hill 452. Finley 151. Duane
*26, Tarver 210. Berry 110 and Rich
mond 59. The election waa the moat
lively contest held In the city In n num
ber of years.

rial Improvements. The elegant brick
building of Dr. C. K. Rents Is now
nearing completion. Also th* Jefferson
County Bank building will be finished

Baptist church Rev. Joseph E. Duren,
