THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN AND NEWS. iTCSDAY. DBCKJ1BEU IT, HOT. The Bell Telephone Company And the Progress of the City N O industry has borne a more important relation to the growth of this city than the rapid and substantial development of The Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. The telephone has not only kept pace with the city, but has forged just a few years ahead. The plant here was built with a view of caring for the future growth, and each improvement has been planned years in advance. The telephone business is hazardous in the extreme. So many different elements, which do not affect any other business, must be taken into account that the services of ex perts are required in every department. We naturally feel proud of our record here. We came when there was no great need for telephone service, and we have grown with the city. From the first day we began business in Atlanta we have realized our duty to our patrons and the general public. We have striven to perform this duty. W"e are a perma nent citizen, and the future prosperity and greatness of our city means as much to us as it does to any other patriotic citizen. The object of our existence here is to give good service at reasonable rates. A permanent investment of many thousands of dollars has been required in order to •establish our plant here. It has been improved from time to time. Practically new equip ment has been discarded in order to make way for later inventions and more modern ap pliances. We have done these things, not only through a sense of duty, but because we be lieve that this city’s future justifies a modern plant equal in efficiency to that of any other city its size. We want you to know that we realize our duty to you. That our efforts are directed at all times toward giving good service at reasonable cost. We are in a position to furnish telephone service to meet the demands of the most casual user, or of the greatest business house. We have established various classes of service at rates which will appeal to your sense of economy. Our lines connect with the great system of long distance lines and place you in touch with every important city east of the Mississippi river. If you are not a telephone subscriber, now is a good time to be gin. If you are already a subscriber, perhaps you need enlarged service.
