John Stevens snd John Davis, are In Jail here on a charge of car breaking, they having been captured last night by Railroad Detective Patter, son and some of the train crew, after a battle between the detective and the negroes. In which no one was hurt. Columbus, Ga., Dec. 19.—A bold high way robbery was perpetrated near 0»- wlchee, Ala., last night, some men In a buggy stopping two negro men and a woman on the road as they were on their way home from this elty and robbing them of a small sum of money. John Anthony, the negro man. wah shot by the robbers, the boy was shot In tho leg. and In a struggle with the robbers the woman was shot In two places. None of the shots U yery serious. MORE MONEY PAID FOR SEWERS IN 1907 The total uinount of expenditures for sewer work this year up to the pres ent date Is 287,002.80, as compared to only - $63,486.31, the amount expended the entire of last year. The Increase Is more than 60 per cent. Eight and three-tenth miles of sewers have been laid this year, and one more will be laid before the year Is over. This will make nine and three- tenth miles as compared to a little more than seven miles last year. Of the sower work done, two are trunk sewers, the Gray street and the Tenth street.
