Athletic Club to Stop Sale,
But Undecided on
Lockers.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles has
decided not to operate lockers, or, In
any way, to continue the operation .of-
Its buffet. •
This was decided upon, at a meeting
of the ways and mean’s committee
Wednesday, which recommended unan
imously the total abandonment of the
buffet after January 1.
The following letter from E. J. Walsh,
of the Eagles, is self-explanatory:
"The Fraternal Order of Eagle's of
Atlanta, which has been operating a
social feature in connection with Its
organisation, called a meeting of the
ways and means committee for the
evening of Wednesday, December 18,
to take up the question of operating a
locker club after January 1. Four-
fifths of the committee was present,
and after a careful Investigation of the
matter, reported back to the aerie a
unanimous opinion that a strict adher
ence to the law was essential to the
success of the order; that makeshift
pretensions would not be In keeping
with the Ideals of this magnificent body,
and recommended that the buffet be or
dered closed on December 31, to remain
closed Indefinitely.
"The report was adopted and the
Fraternal Order of Eagles In Atlanta
proposes to live up to the law."
Athletic Club Undecided.
The Atlanta Athletic Club, states B.
E. Thrasher, Jr., secretary, has not de-
rlded either for or against lockers yet,
The club house will be considerably
torn up on January 1, and It will prob-
nbly be sixty days before It will be
ready for the Installation of lockers If
this step Is decided upon. For this
reason, the directors are taking their
time In reaching a decision.
The following letter has been sent out
to the members by Secretary Thrash-
To the Members of the Atlanta
Athletic dub.—Dear Sirs: I am In
structed by the board of directors to
give you copy of resolution passed at

1907. Same Is as follows:

"That no attempt bo made In any
way to evade the state prohibition law,
which becomes effective on and after
the llrst day of January, next.

Why is Sugar Sweet?
If sugar did not dissolve In the mouth
you could not taste the sweet. GROVE’S
TASTELESS CHILL TONIC Is as
strong as the strongest bitter tonic, but
you do not tuste the bitter because the
Ingredients do not dissolve In the
mouth, but do dissolve readily In the

NEW INDUCEMENTS
INCREASE ACTIVITY
Georgian’s Liberal Offer of Special Money
Prizes For Good Work, and of Extra
Votes, Stimulates the Candi
dates in Great Contest.
The Aral three days of the second and
last special prise offer In The Geor
gian's 616,000 popular voting contest
give promise of great results. Pro
nounced activity marks the course of
this sub-contest, and as the Interest
line largely with district workers In
stead of the "head-liners." who made
such rapid progress a week ago. It Is
evident that many new candidates will
come to life during the offer, and make
the leaders of today sit up and take no.
tlce before the week ends.
Thursday's mall contained dosens of
orders from out of town contestants
who are working with might and main
to be declared the winners of the pianos
snd watches. Votes have been Issued
on these subscriptions and will appear
on Saturday. The extra votes will
be Issued to the candidates at the same
time the regular number of votes are
Issued. The votes will either be polled
nr returned to the contestants, us they
inoy wish. This Is without doubt the
greatest opportunity offered thus far,
ar.d no one should stand back or watt
f»r any other Inducement, for they may
lose a tot of subscriptions which they
would get otherwise. The candidates
will do well to remember that they wilt
receive 200 extra voles on every new
six months subscription, and that a new
lIx months subscription counts as two
three months' subscription* on the prtxe
offer. A new yearly subscription
/
counts the asms as four three months'
subscriptions, so that If you get a few
yearly subscriptions you would have u
largo number of three months' sub
scriptions to your credit.
Black Horse Mey Be Waiting.
With but sixteen days remaining In
the extra prtxe offer and but six weeks
left In the entire contest. It will behoove
every aspirant In the race to be up and
doing. While It fs generally known
that candidates arc withholding bal
lots. no Idea of the number of these
reserves Is to be had. Those who were
in the Arst places yesterday may not
retain their positions at. the end of the
contest. “Black Horses" may come Inti
■he race and carry' off the capital
prizes. That Is going to be the case
sure enough unless the leaders get
mighty busy this week. Those who are
apparently poalng In peace and quie
tude In third and fourth positions are
not as much asleep aa their positions
would Indicate. They are much alive
and playing a wise game, which will
only come to light when the votes are
counted tor the last time. The leaders
of the contest today are not necessarily
the Anal victor*. Four weeks can make
r.ony changes, and thousand* and
thousands of votes can be accumulated
within that time.
Grasp Nsw Opportunities.
There are dozens of aspirants for
»cond, third and fourth places who
are grasping the opportunity of the ex
tra votes this week, and after once re
alising what a good chance they have
to win the main awards, they will como
Into the finish with renewed effort and
make the leaders hustle from early
morning until late at night to keep
their places at the head of the Hat.
These statements ore not idle fairy
tales. The truth will out sooner or
li ter. The extra prlxe offer Is the sig
nal for offort. Make the most of it
before It Is too late. The Inducement
positively closes Saturday night, Jan
uary 4, at 8 o'clock—only sixteen days
more.
Special Prize Offer.
Another special offer la In vogue
whereby you can win one of the fol
lowing prises: 876, or 160, or 825. Here
Is the offer: To the candidate who se
cures the largest number -of new three-
month subscriptions between the dates
ot December 18 and Saturday, January
4, at 8 o'clock p. m„ we will give 276
In gold. The one securing the Second
largest number will receive 850. and
the third highest will receive 825 In
gold. This gives three cash prises.
Besides the cash awards.' we will give
you 300 extra votes on each and every
six-month subscription which you
bring or send in. and COO extra votes
otv each and every one of the yearly
subscriptions which you bring or send
to the contest department of The Geor
gian. Here Is a chance to get extra
prises and extra votes. Take advan
tage of It. A new yearly subscription
counts the same as four for three
tnonths, and a six-month subscription
counts the same as two for three
months.

recommendation. Its graduates are
