Pope. a m#n Saturday preaented sixteen ^otton receipts, ap parently issued by the Farmers’ Union warehouse of Tiftop, to Z. J. Bussell & Son, at Mystic, da.. 15 miles north east of Tifton, and offered the cotton tor sale. Seven of the receipts were filsued to the name of J. M. Johnson and nine to C. 8. Pope. The number* were 4053 to 4060, and 40u5 to 4072, in clusive. Mr. Bpsseli considered it a bargain, and bought the cotton, giving a total of 3901.07 for the lot, paying for it in two checks, on# to J. 31. Johnson for $391 and one to C. S. Pope for 3310 on the Bank of Irwlnville. The man presented the checks to Cashier W. J. Ballard at the Bank of Irwlnville and received 3600 in cash and a cashier’s check for 3301.07. When the Farmers’ Union warehouse was informed that Mr. Bussell had bought the cotton they found that no such receipts had been issued by them. An investigation developed that six teen receipts had been stolen from their warehouse book, Just a page or so later than fneir Saturday's entries. Banks over the country have been notified not to cash the check for 3300, of which nef trace has be$n found, and Mr. Bussell offers a reward of 3100 for the arrest of (7. S. Pope.
