day that Mark Twain had lost $12,000
In the Plasmon Company. There waa
aome speculation among creditors of
the company as to whether or not
Mark Twain would himself make good
the loss to them. There Is no doubt,
if he thought himself liable, he cdtild
easily pay off the concern’s debts.

of Mias Addle M. Bridges, of Rome,
and Jesse M. Miller, of Columbus, Ohio,

STILL ALIVE
New York, Dec. 21.—Jessie Burke,
oged 19, thought dead and burled by
her mother, has written home that she
Is alive and well In New Orleans. Mrs.
Burke had aome months ago Identified
and burled'the body of a girl named
Burke as her daughter. She had alzo
got $600 from an insurance company
on a policy. This was returned.
