Macon, Ga., Dec. 2T.—All previous records were broken Monday and Tues day by the Macott postofllce. The stamp sales on Monday amounted 31,000, and the Increase of tho money order business over lost year was about 60 per cent. Nearly 3,000 money or ders were cashed on Monday, and 3,600 on Tuesday. The registry business Is about double what It was one year ago. The contractors for the new postofllco building have promised to have It In readiness for occupation by the government by the first of April. The new poatofnee Is built of white marble, at n cost of 3460,000. Post master Harry 8. Macon, Go., Dec. 27.—Christmas Macon was characterized by the best order that the city has enjoyed In number of years. Many of the older citizens have testified that drunkenness was less frequent than ever before In tho history of the city so far os they could remember. SAYS WIFE THREATENED TO END OWN LIFE, Special to The Georgian. Macon, Ga., Dec. 27.—John Watts, husband of the. woman found dead on the banks of the Ocmulgee Wednesday morning, Is stilt held In the county jail, awaiting further developments. Watts says he feels sure of being exonerated, and was sorry the authorities would not allow him to attend his wife's funer al. Watts stated that his wife hod frequently threatened suicide. He said that his wife had attempted to burn herself a month ago, and that he was little surprised to learn of her death Wednesday morning. Leesburg, Ga., Dec. 27.—B. W. Ad- kinn, an employee of The Lee County Journal, wan peppered with bird ahot In front of the home of Deputy Clerk J. \V. Morgan, a prominent citizen of thin county. It l« claimed the ehootlng was the result of a planned elopement by Adkins and Miss Nona Morgan. As Adkins drove up In front of the house, the shot was fired. It was pre ceded by a warning cry from Miss Morgan. Tho shot took effect In the face, neck and shoulders of Adkins. He returned the fire with a rifle, but his shots were without effect. It Is not known who tired tho shot as It- came from out tho darkness. A United States Express Company wagon with a load of specie, guarded by Barney Terbeck and Henry Kerkes, and driven by W. II. Sipltb, was struck by a street car. Terbeck and Kerkes were thrown to the street and the bags of speclo on ton of them. Terbeck received a fracture of the skull and Kerkes was badly bruised by the henry bags of money falling on him.
