Unless the pardon board conies to her
rescue, Mrs. Sallle Freeney, now weeping
in the Bibb county jail at Macon and pray*
In# that she may yet bo saved, must go to
tbe penitentiary for the rest of her life.

and her attorney, John It. Cooper, of Ma
con, now has uo other alternative than to
appeal to the pardon board to save his client
from a life or penal servitude In stripes.
Mrs. Freeney waa convicted In Kaatman
for the murder of W. 1*. Harrell, n promi
nent nml wealthy resident of that place, but
was recommended to mercy. Hlie said she
killed Harrell in protecting her honor,
while the prosecution asserted that Harrell
visited Mrs* Freeney’s house to collect rent.
Attorney Cooper was In Atlanta Friday
for the purpose of getting the decision of
rbe court, and while here he learned that
the court was divided on the pro|K>slilon,
three member* wishing to reverse the case
on one polut made by Attorney Cooper con-
ormlng the trial Judge’s charge, and three
wishing to affirm it. This in Itself made
tbe law operative and Mrs. Freeney will
kero to serve her sentence unless the par
