APPEAL OF SALOON MEN
Augusts, Ga., Dso. 7. -The nenr-lu-r
dealers of Augusta have made a vigor
ous light In city couriet) to secure "a
stay of execution," ao to speak. In re-

caused a vigorous protest by the whisky
then nnd they pleaded for on extension

stock on hand until April 1. They
clalm^J that much loss would accrue to
them because of the sudden and totally
unexpected action of council; they they
had vast quantities of whisky which
they can not sell by January 1. nnd
finally that they have signed rent note*
until next October und since they can
make no money paying a 3300 license
and selling only beer, the landlords will
force them to pay rent for their stares,
regardless of whether they make money
or not. and as a result iqany will be
thrown Into bankruptcy. Council’s ears
did not hear the appeaL however, for
the ordinance requiring no more whisky
to be sold after January 1 was passed.

Augusta, Ga., Dso. 7/—After January
1 August:, will have eighteen council-
men Instead of fifteen. The annexation
of Numtuervlljc hap caused the forma
tion of, a sixth ward, and the three new
eouncllmen will -come from that ward.
Intondant Alfred Cuthbert will be one
of the new councllmen, the act making
the village a portion of the city, stlpu-.
luting that the Intendant of the .Vil
iam be one of the members of council.

votes were cast out of the. 1.289 regis

weevil's coming. Recommendations
were made to the legislature for the
passage of certain laws that will bene
fit tho state.
Dr. W. E. Hinds, of Alabama, will be
president and A. F7 Conrad!©, of South
Carolina will be secretary.
For the restriction of articles origi
