[Probe Into Pike County Elec
tion Will Bring Forth Whole
sale Prosecutions.
Toledo, Ohio, Dec. 8.—Wholesale
prosecution of vote frauds In the late
municipal election in Pike county has
been started in that • county before
Judge E. E. Corn, who has begun the
probe. It is thought that revelations
may be made of corruption at, the polls
that will rival those which ended In
the disfranchisement of 2,500 vote-
sellers in Adams county by Judge A. Z.
Blair.
Despite desperate attempts of Influ
ential citizens of Pike county who are
alleged to fear being caught >ln Judge
Corn’s dragnet to suppress all news of
the prosecution. Information was
brought here today that the Pike coun
ty grand Jury, before It recessed yes
terday. returned indictments against
teji .persons charging them with vote
frauds In violation of the Kimble law.
The Pike county grand Jury recon
venes again at Waverly, the county
seat; In January, soon after the holi
days. and It Is then that the probe will
be continued.
Pike county adjoins Adams County on
the north. Of the ten persons Indicted
two are reported to be election Judges,
one .a .village superintendent of schools
and three prominent politicians. Pros
ecutor Douglass today announced that
capiases were Issued and the Indicted
men would be brought In at once.
The two election Judge's are charged
with looking at voters' ballots. These
Judges are accused specifically of look
ing at marked ballots and then by a
nod or shake of the head, informing
party workers In the polling place how
the person had voted, thus enabling
the workers to know whether the voter
had delivered his vote according to ar
rangement. The Judges are also ac
cused of allowing those workers In
polling places In violation of tho law
which allows the presence of only au
thorized challengers.
Others have been Indicated for out-
and-out bribery. The one man arrest
ed Is Carey Stein, a Democratic poli
tician. who Is charged with contempt of
court for tampering with witness**.
Judge Corn found him guilty and sent
him to Jail.

Tom Jackson, negro murderer of hi*
wife and mother-in-law, hangs at Val
dosta on.Friday, after months of fight
ing to save his neck from the gallows.
Respited by three governors and once
rejected but later reedmmonded for
clemency by the state prison commis
sion, the negro and his lawyers finally
lost the*fight when Governor John M.
Slaton declined to further Interfere and
refused to commute the negro s sen
tence to life Imprisonment.
Governor Joseph M. Brown early last
summer gave Jackson two respite* that
carried him over to the Hoke Smith
administration, the prison commission
in July refusing to recommend a com
mutation. Governor Smith throe times
