Leap Year Ball at Driving Club To Be
• Novel Event
One of the happiest events of ths
holiday season will be the leap year
ball to be given at the Piedmont Driv
ing club on the evening of January 11.
The members of the Leap Year Cotil
lion club, which will be composed of
tho most prominent and popular debu
tantes and member* of tho unmarried
set, will Issue the Invitations.
The young men of the city will re
ceive these invitations, but the mere
receipt of the Invitation will not entltlo
the recipient to attend the ball, as he
must hava a personal Invitation from
some ono of the hostesses to accom
pany her to the ball before he can ac-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Murphy,
on Friday at i o’clock.
The guests were received by the
young hbstess and her sister, Miss
Katherine Murphy, the two standing
under a beautiful ttoral umbrella In the
center of the ball room, on the third
door of the Murphy residence. The
huge umbrella was twined with crim
son rambler roses and amllax, forming
a canopy of flowers from which at In
tervals swung golden'cornucopias filled
with the crimson-starred rose vine. The
white mirrored walls were outlined In
crimson rambler roses and atnllax, and
the flowers wreathed the chandeliers,
the window and door arches, trans
forming the handsome apartment Into
a veritable garden of flowers. In which
the dainty little girls In thqjr lovely
dancing frock* were like living flower*.
Miss Julia Murphy wore a gown of
yellow chiffon over yellow charmeuse,
with slippers of gold, and she carried a
quaint old-fashioned nosegay of small
yellow roses In a paper bouquet holder.
Her little sister, Katherine, wore a
dainty hand-made frock of mull and
vslenclenne* lace, with blue ribbons
and blue slippers, her little nosegay of
pink rosebud*.
An orchestra gave-a program of
twenty selection! for tne young danc
er*. At 6 o’clock the. children were
given giant flrepoppers, which unfolded
to disclose pretty gayly colored frocks
of tissue paper for the girls and quaint
caps and favors for the boy*. A pretty
cotillion flgure was danced by the chil
dren. wearing the fancy costumes and
also French masks. There were other
Christmas favors of various kinds.
Punch was served throughout the
hour* of the party from a rose-
wreathed punch bowl, nnd Ices and con
fections were served during the latter
part of the party.
About 50 young people were present.

MRS. GORMAN’S PARTIES s ^
Delightful event* of the day were Ih*
two parties at which Mrs. O. B. Gor
man entertained In honor of Miss
Martha Ryder, or Columbus, who I*
spending the winter In Atlanta.
A buffet luncheon was given on Sat
urday morning by Mrs. Gorman, fol
lowed-by an afternoon tea. to which
members of the debutante set were In
vited.
Pink and green was the decorative
motif and the table had as a center
piece a basket of Klllsrney rose*, the
handle tied with pink tulle. Silver
candelabra held pink-shaded taper* and
he young women will call for the
young men and upon their arrival at
tho club, reversing the usual order of
things, the men will be presented with
dance cards which will be filled out by
the young girl*. There.will be no stags
except perhaps some of the girls, and
no man can attend the ball unless he Is
personally escorted by one of the
charming hostesses. 1
The affair will be marked by many
novel features and will be one of the
merriest events of the season and a
charming compliment from the young
women to the young men.

Mr*. Gorman was gowned In black
charmeuse, and Miss Ryder wore pink
embroidered chiffon over satin, with a
corsage bouquet of Ktllamey roses.
The parties constituted the second
and third of a series which Mrs. Gor
man has given this wesk In honor of
Miss Ryder, the Initial afTalr being a
bridge party, on Thursday afternoon.
CHRISTMAS" BAZAAR.

End Presbyterian church. Dinner and
lunch served each day between 12 and
2:10 o'clock for IS and 26 cents, respec

the Georgian Terraco by Miss Lilian
Stewart, In honor of Miss Virginia
Jones, was a pleasant affair of the
week. The prlxe at the game of hearts
was a cut glass Jewel box, and was
won by Miss Ella Brown.
Many pretty Christmas favors were
distributed during the course of the
evening, and the occasion was moat
enjoyable. Mias Jones wore white chif
fon and ifatln, and Miss Stewart wore
a pink crepe de chine evening gown
for the party.

tiful holiday dance on Saturday after
