with 4 the news of the disappearance of
Gertrude Gibson Pftttereon, who shot
and killed her' hueband, “Chick” Pat
terson, form.r Chicago football player,
and who was acquitted after a sensa-
tlonal trial In Denver, from her home at
Sandoval, 111, comes the news of an In
vestigation of some of the occurrences
at the trial which have been ptartec} In
the Colorado capital.
The possibility of the acquitted wom
an having .come to this city to again
see Emil YV. Strouss, Chicago million
aire, was laughed at by Mrs. Fred P.
Kamham, her sister.
"Gertrude la thru with Strouss for all
time,” sold Mrs. Farnham.
Dispatches from Denver throw a dif
ferent light on the subject of Mrs. Pat
terson and Strouss, however. These
dispatches say that the Denver Bar
association has engaged Detective Wil
liam J. Burns to probe Into some of the
Patterson trial circumstances. Denver
lawyers suspect that Strouss, who was
charged with "buying” her from her
husband, oven if he remained - in the
background during the trial of Mrs.
Patterson, had much to do with formu
lating her successful defense.

little love god did In Atlanta Just about

has been a wedding. This is the story;
One November morning, between
three and four weeks ago, an alarm was

MORE MONEY IS NEEDED
FOR BRIDGE OVER RIVER
Columbus, Ga„ Dec. 14.—The new
concrete bridge over the Chattahoochee
river at Dllllngham-st. has, according
to Mayor Chappell In his Inaugural ad
dress, cost the city (140,000 up to the
present time, while only (100,000 in
bonds were Issued and sold to do the
work. It has now become necessary
to call another bond Issue of (S0.400 to
complete the work, but there Is some
doubt as to whether the taxpayers will
vote this additional burden on them

the bridge would cost more than the
original estimate. It was not thought
It would be to much.

that there are (.000 bales of cotton yet
to be picked in Spalding county. This
county will make this year 25,000 bales.
