Caused Advances All Along the
Line—Business Was Very
Active. \
New York, Dec. 29.—After opening «
points lower to 5 points higher the cot
ton market rallied today on heavy buying
of January options by spot Interests.
The tone at the outset was irregular, but
there was much activity owing to the cir
culation of notices against January con
tract!. The January notices were esti
mated to be between 76,000 and 100,000
bales. The price rallied 7 points on spot
buying, but later eased off.
Futures and spot were dull and easy
in Liverpool, due to the textile lockout.
The market showed considerable
strength In face of influences ordinarily
making for weakness. Notices for Jan
uary were on an unusually heavy scale,
estimated at about 100.000 bales, and the
labor situation In the Lancashire district
was unchanged, but the market held very
steady for all positions except December,
which expired at noon at 8.80. Other po
sitions at 2 o’clock were 4 to, 11 points
above the previous close with January In
demand from spot interests.
The week-end statistics were bullish.
