Sumter county, 8. comes n story of
a woman's remarkable heroism lp siev
ing the life of a young man, George
Purdy, son of Judge R. O. Purdy. The
young man was walking through the
woods near the. homo of Am*. T. J.
Dick, when he was struck by a-rattle
snake, the reptile sinking Its fangs Into
the flesh of the young man.
Mrs. Dick, who was In her house,
heard tho commotion and rushed out
side and when aho learned that the
young man had been bltton by a rat
tler »he*made an Inblslon Ip the wound
In order to cause the blood to flow free
ly. She hurried a boy to hep.home for
some brandy and while the*boy was off
on* the mission Mrs. Dick placed her
mouth over tho wound and Hucked the,
poison from tho wound, risking her
own life In this act. When tho boy
returned, the brAve woman caused
young Purdy to drink a considerable
poitlon of the fluid In order t.> charge
his system with alcohol and counteract
the poison.
It Is understood that the young man
Is doing well and his life will be saved.

cordef Broyles for contempt of court.
Dr. McAfee left Atlanta about the
time the case was scheduled for trial
and rnnalned away untll'yesterday. On

Detective Sergennt Lanford and a case
of contempt docketed against him.
Judge Broyles did not enter Into a
hearing of the cocaine case, as Ser
geant Lanford Informed him the Fulton
county grand Jury had nlready indicted
Dr. McAfee In this matter.

fled from court because of certnln
ports that had reached him concerning
the case. H# said ho heard the proso-
cutfon was fixing up a bad case against
him, with witnesses of«-whom ho had
