Tha figures may b-« slightly changed and those on the abstract do not In clude railroad property. Tha Increase for the county la a lit tle more then a half million dollars over last year. Tha slats board haa tha powar to raise or lower tha property In any county. The auditor haa not'received the returns of tha railroad property and Insurance companies, as these returns come through the comptroller general’s office. It Is understood that the rail road assessments have been materially Increased thla year. Accepting the as sessment of these corporations as they stood last year will show a total as sessment of $4,424,IM, or an Increase over last year of-1 (01,>10. SUES IRON WORKS FOR $20,000 DAMAGE Special to Tha Georgian. Columbus, Ga^ June 4.-—Mrs. R. E. Brooks, of Girard, Ala, has sued for 110,000 for tha life of her husband, H. K Brooks, whose death was caused by a piston-head exploding at the Co lumbus Iron works two months ago. It was a peculiar accident, and only tbe second one ot the kind within the knowledge of old employees of the Iron works. A piston-head from a cylinder of.a steamboat waa being healed In a fur nace when It exploded, creating hav oc, and fatally wounding Brooks, who raa standing near. Thomas F. Cox denies the statement that he Is satisfied with the actions of the recent Nashville convention and that he will bow to the will of the Democracy of ths state. He says that he would have been satisfied with the will of the majority, but that the wholesale unseating of‘ his dele gates, fairly and honestly elected ln Wilson, Maury, Smith, Weakley, Wash ington and other counties, was not In accordance wltb the will of the ma jority, but waa made possible by the Greene county trade and hence there Is little satisfaction In the result of the convention. The project Is a big om and when It has been successfully undertaken 26,000 acres of fine rice land tn southwest ern Louisiana will stand a better show of development than under present conditions. The canal will extend from Washington across 8t. Landry parish to Msmou Prairie. The company Is capitalised at $1, 400,000, and among the stockholders are a number of prominent Phila delphians, who are at present on a trip over the route with J. Franklin Schnell and L. E.
