With Arrhcr Improving nlcsly. crsry mnn

Thursday's defeat.
Atlanta la •till only one amall Tlctory

to the front look fine and dandy. Memphla

Secretary McCullough, of the Memphla

Saturday will be the closing day of the
team's stay at home and the gsme will In*

make quick Jumps—Atlanta to Shreveport
and Memphis hack home.
Manager Babb seems quite confident of
making It two out of three. When unsure.I
that Ills team waa going to lose the last
two games he said: “Why. you're away
wrong. We'll win two out of three and
maylw nil of them. The team hero Is all
right, hut oura la l»ett#r. Look out for
trouble. We'll win In a walk."
And for n fact J»e Mid it Just aa though

the same story time after time, you actual

Thursday’s Games Ground
Into Fancy Baseball Hash
Well, we had to lose sometime, and It
waa • pleasure to help along the bunch
from Memphla. They need the games, and
then they are a clever crowd aud play
hard ball.
With the “ifa" cut out there la not ao
much to say about Thuraday'a game, ex
cept that It waa a screamer.
Llehhart Is aald to be among the beat
Pitchers In the league, and maylm he la.
Manager Babb aaya that hla game Thurs
day waa the poorest he has pitched this
year.
'Tittle Cborgle" Rugga la In rare form
this year and will prove a troublesome
man. Laat year waa an off year with him,
hs with most of the member* of the Mem
phis team, but he la back In hla old Houjli
Atlantic form this eeaaou and la a terror
to batters.
gparks replaced Loucka In the sixth. The
“Lucky One" waa having an unlucky day.
■parks did well, but no man could atop the
Memphis batters after the start they got.
The game lasted 173 minute*, which la
gnir.c after the long distance record.
Gee. but that was a great winning streak
while It lasted.
Wonder bow much the absence of Arehe
bad to do with the result. It Isn't ao much
the abseneo of n player which hurt* as It
In the demoralising Influence of having a
man Injured.
It was very thoughtful of Bhreveport to
Iom* Thursday. That leaves Atlanta right
within strtlng distance of the lead.
Old Bobby Ullks la hark In the game at

It's an awfully nice thfug to travel with
a ball team that Is knocking tar out of

thing to travel with a losing club.
But when you get on the rood with a
small band of earnest workers whose losses
of the day liefore are buried with the past
aud all thoughts turn to the task laid out
for the present day’s work, there's a feel
