a comprehensive plan for the finan
cial rehabilitation of the Wabash Rail
road Company, which Involve* the cre
ation of nn laaue of about 1200,000,000
first consolidated mortgage bond*.
The last rail* were laid yesterday
connecting the Wabash with the belt
line connecting the line Into the Car
negie steel works In Pittsburg. It
means that the contract turning over
to the Wabash the vast tonnage from
the United State* Steel corporation
Is carried Into effect. This Insures
the railroad an Immense amount of
tram, and a corresponding Increase

David Augustus Perryman, an old

thropic gentleman, whoae life was de

Mr. Perryman Is survived ..by four
daughters and four sons, all wholesale

After enjoying a tempting repast and
then refusing to pay the price, John
Lightning and Herbert Smith, two

The fire originated In a blind attic
qver the senate chamber. It Is thought,
from defective electric wiring.
The senate records are uninjured.
The fire waa stopped at the center of
the building and the west half escaped
with small damage from emoke and
water.
The old capitol waa destroyed by
federal troops In 18(2.
The legislature convened tn Baton

formerly employed in the Fulton Bag
and Cotton mills, Is In Grady hospital
In a serious condition, as the result
of having been shot In the qbdomen
Thursday night by Special bffleer J.
T. Reese, of the cotton mill.
Johnson and hla wife moved to
Gainesville about two months ago,
where he haa been working. He re
turned to Atlanta Thursday,’and la said
to have got to drinking. During the
day he Is said to have made threats
against Officer Reese.
Early In the night he went to a
boaring house at (0 Wyman atreet
and fell asleep on the front steps. Of-
ffcerReene was summoned, and aroused
Thompson, advising him to leave. The
officer cays Thompson pulled some kind
of Instrument from hie pocket, pre
sumably a blllie, and struck him on the
head. The two men engaged In a
struggle, and Thompson la alleged to
have drawn a knife. The officer shot
him one time.
A statement could not be obtained
from tne wounded man, owing to hi*
condition. The hospital physicians
believe he will recover.

WOMAN WHO IS SLAYER
EXPECTS TO BE FREED

Richmond, Ky., June 8.—The exam
Intng trial of Mrs. Nannie Nuckols,
who shot and killed Mrs. Vina Black
yesterday at Beraa, will take place to
day. Two persona who were at Berea
yeeterday will go on the eland and tes
tify that they heard Mr*. Black on two
different occasions threaten the life of
Mr*. Tfuckola, saying, "I'll km her
before the sun aeta." Mrs. Nuckols
wa# warned, went to her tent, and pre-
g tred herself for an attack from Mra.
lock.
The dead woman was taken to Con-
wayr her home, and burled In the fam
ily burying ground*. Her three little
children. In charge of their old grand
mother, attended the funeral and were
objects of much sympathy.
Late last night Mr. Nuckola arrived
In Richmond, bringing with him the
three little children, which ■ were ad
mitted Into the Jail and to their moth
er’s celL The meeting was moat pa
thetic.
Mr*. Nuckols la as bright and cheer

them to believe that Prather Bell, the
Western Unton lineman, reported dead,
la alive, and now located at Comer,
Madison county, Georgia, working for
th# Southern Bejl Telephone Company.
W. R. Hatch, the man who wired
Bell's parents at Greensboro, N. C.,
that the young man was dead, left
Atlanta Monday for Comer. Four
other men were with him, and the
detectives feel sure Bell Is one of the
party.

NURSE DIES IN AGONY

ble death of Miss Edith M. Killmer,
head nurse of th* Killmer Sanitarium
In Jamaica, after three days of the
moat Intense, agony, was due to con
tact .with a patient suffering from can
cer, become known today. Miss Klll-
mer bad a alight scratch on her right
hand, and neglected to put nn the rub
ber glove* which are used in cancer
hospitals.
Miss Killmer dressed the wound of a
carcinoma patient on Saturday. An
hour later the felt pains In her arms.
Before tba day waa over she waa In
agony.

John Yonkers, a young man of neat
appearance, a machinist at the De-
Loach -Manufacturing Company, was
arrested Fridny morning by Call Offi
cers Luck and Chandler as the result
of a lively row with hla former land
lady, Mrs. Fannie Jones, -of 27 Writ#

Mrs. Jones summoned the police and
Informed that that Yonkers, who now
boards next door at the home of a Mrs
.Monte, had threatened to whip her’
Yonkers asserts that he has been much
annoyed by Mrs. Jones and her two
daughters, .about twelve and fourteen
years of age, respectively.

DISASTROUS FIRE
VISITS EDGEFIELD

Augusta, Ga., June 8.—Edgefield. 8.
C., was visited by -a very disastrous
fire last night, which resulted In about
*18,000 loss. The Augusta fire depart
ment was asked to aid, but about the
time the chemical engine was to leave
It was learned that the Are was under
control.
The Are originated In the cellar of
the store occupied by Cobb & Seal as
a shoe store, totally destroying the
building and contents.
The store of W. W. Adams was total
ly destroyed.
A portion of the stock of Mr. Adams
was removed from the building before
the building caught, the- adjoining
stores of Governor J. C. Sheppard, oc
cupied by Jones it Son, nnd the store
of Mrs. Kate Lynch, occupied by J. W.
Peak, also caught.
Tho business portion of the town was
for a time In Imminent danger ot be
ing swept away.
The origin of the Are Is os yet un
known.
Cobb & Seal's loss Is estimated at
(4,000 and the building at (2,000; In
surance 81,000 on stock and (1,000 nn
building, which Is owned by C. A. Cobh.

Insurance (4,000.

dispensary Investigating committee
thla morning \V. A. Clark, president of
the Carolina National bank, testified
that he had had frequent conversations
with 8. J. Lonahan, of William Lana-
han &’Co., of Baltimore, and that Mr.
Lanahan hod complained that, although
he had over (200.000 tnveated In man
ufacturing enterprise* In Columbia, he
could not get his due proportion of or
ders from the dispensary. He put In as
evidence a letter which he had received
from Lanahan and had turned over to
Governor Heyward. The latter had
declared his intention to remove the
purchasing board If Mr. Lanabsn would
furnish specific Information.
That wa* In December. 10»4. and in
the month follow ing Governor Heywoiu
had recommended to tho legislature to
change the entire purchasing aystem.
