Smelting Company's mines at Canan-
ea. Mexico, baa written a letter home
under date of June t, describing tha
recent conflict between the Mexican
m Inara and Colonel Oreene’a force at
the latter's mlncrln Cananea, part of
which he witnessed.
In part he says:
“There have been about ISO Mexlcane
killed and tan to twelve Americana.
Many of ue have not slept for 41
houra. The great trouble here Is that
some of the Americana get too ex-
cited. Last night things war* pretty
lively for about two hours after S
o'clock. I stood on the mass for a
while and I could look down and see
the men dropping almost In all direc

"After a few shots, we went to the
hotel, where we got the I ad lee togeth
er! and escorted them to the home of
Colonel Oreene. Colonel Greene has
more pure nerve than any man that
ever lived. He waa riding around all
night at tha head of six ruralea, a
daring bunch of Mexican soldiers, and

roll, of Rockwood, Tenn., mads a
statement before tha trial waa to be
heard In Knoxville, that every night
the dead man rubbed hla cold face
over hia eo that he could not sleep.
The murderer had employed Colonel
K. K. Mynatt, of Knoxville, to defend
hla case, but he died before tha case
waa called for trial.
The murderer died from remorse.
