kets opened with considerable hesita
tion. The general belief that the gov
ernment crop report would »how a

pression that the money situation as

ment was not ae satisfactory as It
might be, caused some liquidation and
a renewal of bearish presauro. In tha
comment on the market outlook over
Sunday there was a note of misgiving,
not to any pessimism, which was calcu
lated to appeal more or less forcibly
to outside holder* of securities. What
the dealings after the flrst half hour
showed, however, wag that the outside
Interest likely to be affected by these
expressions was comparatively email,
and that the real power on the buying

With the reappearance of tho purchases
w hich had been so lnlluentlal last week
In St. Paul stock the whole market
started upward again and by noon was
generally higher on the day. Bt. Paul
gained 3 points during the morning
and the buying of the shares, whether
or not the expected Is Issue of “rights"
was the only Incentive, came from
some of the largest and moat Import
ant houses In the street. In other di
rections the market was quiet, but It
was noted that prices rallied on very
little buying.
In the stock market Steel, preferred.
Car Foundry and Union Parlllc. opened
unchanged. The balance of the list
started In at decline of from 1*8 to
1-2, the last In Missouri Pacific. Read
ing opened 3-8 lower. Bt. Paul and
Amalgamated declined 1*8. Anaconda
opened 1-2 higher.

coalers were comparatively steady, but In
active. The government report on grain
will t>e published this afternoon and will
attract a good deal of attention, and tlih
market seems to be an awaiting one until
this Is ont of the way. If the crop report
la good and money continues easy, those
who are now holding aloof for the market
would probably come In nnd assist In ad
vancing prices. On weak spots stocks
should be bought for tarns.
