Chicago, June 22.—The officials of the
United States Steel Corporation nnd Us
various subsidiary corporations began
behind closed doors at the office of
President Buffington, of the Illinois
Steel Company, In the Rookery build
lng, yesterday, a conference which will
continue today, adjourning this after
noon.
Nearly all of the chief officials are
In attendance, among them being Pres
ident W. E. Corey and Vice presidents
F. E. House and James Oayley.
The details concerning the establish
ment of the great new plant at Gary,
Xnd., were discussed at the meeting.
Plans for the location of the operating
headquarters for tho entire company,
will be gone over and an Inspection will
be made of the physical property plant
at South Chicago. In anticipation of
the location of the operating headquar
ters In Chicago, four floors of the new
Commercial National Bank building at
Clark and Adams streets have been
leased.
TURMAN AUCTION SALE
WAS GREAT SUCCESS
The auction sale of S. B. Turman ft
Co. Thursday was a great success.
More than 600 people attended by- ac
tual count. Ticket No. 666', held by W.
F, Thacker, of 121 Simpson street, drew
the free lot.
