Now Orleans, June 21—Cables are favor-
able no far as futures are concerned, but
snot sales of only 7,000 bales are not favor
able. Futures were due 1 up on New Or
leans and unchanged to 1 up on New York.

somewhat calmer feeling prevailed over

in the steel trade, nnd the opinion was In
clined to regard them more lightly than
was the ease yesterday. Nothing happened
lu such routine matters na foreign exchange
or monoy to affect operations in securities
one way or tho other. The London market,

ings of yesterday, sent 111 lower prlfi»s for
the American list. But the transaction* of
tho morning, which again were on a highly
speculative origin, were guided chiefly by
tho contrary views existing over the tech
nical position. Tho idea that yesterdny’a
demonstration against prices was the work
of a bear party very largely led a certain
section of the professional trader* to buy
“for a turn" on the long side. For tho
•amt reason thero was considerable cover
ing of profits from stocks sold short

The market was subject to pressure of
l>eaiish opinion from leading bouses who
were sellers of Steel common and many
