Dallas, Texas, June , 22.—A warm
fight, which ultimately means the en
tire disruption of the Republican party
In Texas, Is now In progress In this
state. Cecil A. Lyon, chairman of the
Republican state executive committee,
has been carrying matters with a high
hand the four years of hla Incum
bency, completely Ignoring the negro
members of the party. While, of course,
the "Lib* White" party has suited the
white Republicans, especially those
who are now eating at the Federal pic
counter, there are itmn> prominent
white members of the party who ore
not satisfied with tho way that the af
fairs have been conducted <ynd open
revolt has already resulted.
Because of the way the negroes have
been treated, the vote of the party
has greatly fallen oft. In 1900 E. II. R.
Green, son of Mrs. Hetty Green, of
New York, was chairman of the Re
publican state committee, the Vote for
president was more than 100,000. In
1904 less than 50,000 votes were polled
In this state by the G. O. P.. and this
is one of the reasons why those who
are members of the party from princi
ple are fighting the present incumbent.
At a recent meeting of the executive
committee it was decided to hold the
state convention, which meets in Au
gust, at El Paso, which Is several hun
dred miles from the populous section of
the state, and a section where negro
Republicans are very scarce. When
this decision became known W
McDonald, better known as "Goose
neck" McDonald, a great power with
the negro Republicans. Instituted in-

Lyon from

vention. The hearing was held In
Irayson county, before District J\dge
ones, nnd he refused to grant the In-
inctlon. The matter was appealed to
1 * * court of civil appeals and this til-
unal on last Saturday upheld the de-
Islon of the lower court.
McDonald, undaunted, has announced
that he will carry the matter to the
state supreme court.
A few days after the Dallas meet
ing was held a meeting of those op-
sed to the present chairman was

Inns denouncing Lyons and hi. policy
wero Indorsed, and It was decided that
this wing of the party, known as the
"black and tan wing," should hold a
convention at a more central point on
the day that the convention called
by Chairman Lyon Is held, at which
time an executive committee, com
plied of one man from each senntorln
