Miss Ruth Parker, the attractive
guest of Miss Elisabeth Osborne, was
honored Tuesday afternoon with a
beautiful card party given for her by
Miss Osborns. Miss Osborne's home
was decorated with pink and white
sweet peas, these flowers* being artis
tically arranged throughout the entire
lower floor. The Ices, mints and bon
bons served carried out the color
scheme of pink and white. The first
prise was a dainty white fan, and the
consolation was a gold hat pin. Miss
Parker was presented with a gold stick
pin.
Mrs. Osborne wore a pretty white
lingerie gown, and Mies Elisabeth Os
borne was attractive In white organdie
and pink rlbons. Miss Parker wore
blue mull, with trimmings of white
lace.

Monday evening the friends of MIm
Elisabeth Rawson gave her a very de
lightful surprise party at her home on
Washington street. Mlse Rawson'
mother had been told the secret, and
was prepared to receive the glrle and
boys who called. During the evening
Icea were served and much merriment
was caused by the cutting of the cake,
from which Mies Julia Roeaer drew
the ring. The thimble was cut by

MARRIED FIFTY YEARS.
The following account taken from a
Mississippi exchange of the celebra
tion of the golden wedding of Hon. and
Mrs. W. T. Ratliff, which occurred a
fev£- days ago at Raymond, Miss., will
read with much Interest by their
friendp and the frienda of their daugh
ter, and aon-ln-law. Dr. and Mra. B.
D. Gray, of Atlanta, In various parts
of the South:
'Captain and Mr*. W. T, Ratliff
celebrated their golden wedding anni
versary Monday at their beautiful su
burban home at Raymond with a re
ception to their friends, who came not
only from every section of th* county,
but from many point* In thta and oth
er states.
"Fifty-two guests, relatives and In
timate friends, partook of an elegant
dinner, served under a handsome water
oak which stands In the spacious yard.
Thta tree was planted by Mrs. Ratliff
soon after moving to the place, thirty-
two year* ago. All the afternoon the
friends from everywhere were enter
tained as only the true Southerner ran
entertain. Everything waa decorated
In golden color*. Including the tables,
at which delicious refreshments were
served.
“A pleasant feature of the day was
a speech by Dr. W. T. Lowry, president
of Mississippi College at Clinton. In
presenting Captain Ratliff with a
handsome gold watch for the faculty
and a heavy gold chain for the senior
class of that Institution. Captain Rat
liff having been president of the
board of trustees for the last thirty-
three years. To this speech Captain
Ratllcff responded In an appropriate
vein In his usual happy way. Follow.
Inc this was an oration by Dr. B. D.
Gray, a Baptist divine of wide reputa
tion In the Booth, living In Atlanta,
Ga., he being a son-in-law of Captain
and Mrs. Ratliff. Dr. Gray extolled
their character la terms that touched
the hearts of every one present.
"The presents were numerous, hand
some and costly, and Included, beslf

"Among the many presents was _
elegant after dinner set of cups and
saucers from a Cincinnati friend o'

of Vicksburg. He wrote on a little
card: 'I am extremely glad we did
not kill one another before Vicksburg.
Accept my congratulations, and a wish
that you and your good wife may have
many happy returns of the day.' DIs

bride. Both of them were unlike any
thing seen these days and attracted
much attention.

ried at the home of the bride's par
ents, Mr. and Mr*. M. L. Cook, near
Edwards, on June 18, 1888, the cere
mony having been performed by Rev.
James A. Godfrey, a noted Methodist
divine of ante bellum days, and six
of. those present at the wedding were
also present at the celebration Mon
day.

for their purity of character and devo

tain and Mrs. Ratliff.”

Mlsa Bailie Eugenia Brown will
