Berlin, June 29.—In a most sensa
tional article, Inspired by the German
government. The Koetnlsche Zeltung
complains of the unjust treatment of
German exporters tfi the United Btates
When a few months ago Germany de
cided to treat the United Statea as the
' "most favored nation,” It was done be
cause the American government at
Washlnkton solemnly promised that the
American customs officials should not
contlnua their unjust valuation of Ger
man Imports ovsr which German ex
porters have complained for years.
This promise, the Cologne paper says,
the American government has never
kept or even endeavored to keep. On
the contrary, the American customa of.
flclala have, during the laat few
months, put an svsn hlghsr valuation on
German goods than ever before. This
has rssulted In almost total destruc
tlon of German export trade to Amer
ica. Under the present circumstances,
the paper says, It would ortly be right
that Germany, according to the old
rule, an eye or an eye. us* the
same tactics against American goods
received here. As a result of the arti
cle, the German minister of the inte
rior and the Oerman ambassador at
Washington will In the very near fu
ture ask torn* explanation from the
American government.
