tion, which will reault In a sweeping
exposure of the' life of Stanford
'White and hla millionaire aaaoclatea,
has heen begun.
While Harry Thnw was waiting to
be arraigned to plead not guilty to the
charge of murder In the flrat degree
for killing the architect, Assistant DIs-
tiict Attorney Garvin obtained live sub-
penaa In blank from Magistrate Cor
nell, in the Center street court. These
are to be used In “John Dot" proceed
ings.
Witnesses familiar, with the life led
by Stanford White and his friends will
be called. Names prominent In social,
business and financial circles arc In
volved. It Is expected that the reve
lations will shake the social structure
of New York to Its foundations.
All of this la to come before the trial
of Harry Thaw.
The district attorney’s office already
Is In possession of many facta about
White and his friends. Ex-Judge Ol-
cott, Thaw's counsel, has many more.
Since he became Identified With the
case he has received more than 1,000
letters bearing on the case. They con
demn Whits, relate hla escapades It.

tion and furnish other evidences which
will be placed at the disposal of the
district attorney.

Smith, 44 years of age, and his 10-ysar-
old daughter, Millie, have arrived here
after a tramp of 174 miles overland,
from Folkestop, Oa.. In an unsuccess,

days and Smith claims to have walked

fourth annual confsrsnrs of ths Young
People's Missionary Society met at
Kenilworth Inn, In this city, lest night
for a ten days' session. About 300 del
egates had arrived last night, and It la
axpectsd that 300 will be In attendance

The first hour of each day will be
spent In mission study under ths lead
ership of a number of trained teach

This will ba followed by jui Institute
hour, which will afford an opportunity
to consider approved methods of mis
sionary work In churches, Sunday
schools and young psopta’a societies.
The third hour of the day will be
given over to addressee by returned
missionaries. The afternoons will be
devoted entirely to recreations, with
exceptionally favorable environment.
The evening will be occupied with Bible
