Evtn those who bellove that the tendency Is still downward, and that tho low price limits have by no means been reached, were willing to admit that this Idea wns well founded. Ac cordingly, the morning's operatt were given over chiefly to buying in against contracts for the decline, add ed to which purchases were made freely by professional operators who saw the opportunity of a small profit on the long side. Under the buying from these sources prices rallied very sharply after a half hour or so of un certainty at the opening. The stocks which have been sold most heavily for short account, such as Rending, Penn sylvania, Union Paclflc, Copper,.Smel ters nnd Colorado Fuel, were tho ones which rebounded the swiftest.
