A Few Fractional Losses Followed
the Initial Dealings—
Was Lacking.
Vim.

By Private Lensetl Wire.
New York, July 3.—The security
dealings today were governed entirely
by the consideration that a market
hlch had been going down continu
ously for a week, with resulting losses,
was entitled at least to some sort of a
rally. Kven those who believe that the
tendency is still downward, nnd that
the low price limits have by no means
been reached, were willing tn admit
that this Idea was well founded. Ac
cordingly, tho morning’s operations
given over chiefly to buying In
against contracts for tho decline, add
ed to which purchases were made
freely by professional operators who
saw the opportunity <»f a .small profit
.on the long side. Under the buying j
from these sources prices rallied very
sharply after a half hour or so of un
certainty at the opening. The stocks
which have been sold most heavily for
abort account, such as Heading, i’onn-
■ylvanla, Union Pacific, Copper, Smel
ters and Colorado Fuel, were the ones
which rebounded the swiftest. Tho
lower priced issues and stocks whose
movement Is slower made only a frac
tional gain, while many of the manip
ulated pool specialties made no re
sponse at all. The utmost that could
be said of the day’s happenings wns
that they revealed a good undertone
In tho market and a cessation of li
quidating sales without carrying much
conviction that the turn for tho better
was anything more than temporary.
