Haaell, nf the Georgia, Florida and Alabama Railway, died at her home on College avenuo today, after a aurglcal operation.' Mrs. ITsaell was formerly Mlaa Mat- tie Martin, of Chapel Hill. N. C. The hotly was sent home for Interment. Hhe leaves one child aged G years. Mrs. I'asell Is a cousin of President Williams of the Oeorgla, Florida and Alabama. L, Veaxey, one of the oldest and beat known cltiaana of Taliaferro county, died at the home of hia nephew, J. 11. Wheeler, near this place, Sunday. His remains were Interred In the Craw- fordvltle cemetery Monday, Or. J. H. Kilpatrick, of White Plains, conduct ing the funeral service. Mr. Veaxey waa 71 years old, and waa well known as a contributor to the Christian Index and other papers, and for his wrttngi before various as sociations and general maetlnga throughout this section. Buthardt, a young while man, who re sides several miles from Newberry, waa assaulted by several white men Satur day night and seriously. If not mortal ly, Injured, the weapons used being knives. Buahardt'e assailants were Oeorge and Walter Koon and Frank Stukrs, all of whom reside In the mill village. Oeorge Koon and Frank Stukrs were arrested Immediately after the fray, but Walter KoA made good bis escape. Koon and 8tukea were brought be fore Mayor Brown and each fined 118.
