By Private Leased Wire.
New York. July 6.—The action of the
market this morning made it clear that
tbe action late yesterday was an Intercep
tion of a recovery and not a fresh decllno.
At tbe opening this morning the general
list wentjower in sympathy with a decline
In the foreign markets. London's selling
was the moat Influential factor In the deal
lags st tbe start, but when the foreign
offerings were taken, which they were very
easily, prices started up Immediately, and
In the course or tho morning rallied with
more energy than thev have for
while past. The leading Issues before mid
day were back ,to yesterday's highest and.
In some cases, above these high prices, and
the easy manner with which tbe upturn
was accomplished, created a decidedly more
confident feeling In speculative circles. It
was more widely agreed that the market
had a sold-out nppearauce, and that morn
than one large speculative Interest was be
ginning to l>e embarrassed by Its position
on the short side. These technical condl
tlons, of course, took precedence over every
thing else iu the day a discussion.

short covering Induced by the appear

ties. Around the top prices, a check
was noted In some of the leaders, but
the market displayed a disposition to
harden and remain quiet for a time,
with a sort of deadlock between the
opposite parties. The Indications are
that no Important movement will take

.Jquldation subsiding as It has, the
shorts, of which there are many, will

still recommend a conservative position
with taking of moderate profits, and
the close following of the Individual
position, which give the Indications of
vulnerability and strength from the
technical point of view. We find signs
that the big Interests are satisfied to
take atocks on declines, and tho bear
side la likely to be made haaardous In
the Immediate future. We are In a
