The New York Commercial. In Its re
new of the cotton market Friday, says:
-Dull markets have been the rule for a
long tithe, but that of yesterday was
nallv distressing. August showed a
little life nnd there were a few little
ripples, but on the whole It was a very
dead pond.
"Some of those who have been short
for many weeks are beginning to talk
more bearish, and on dull moments
thrre Is covering. No one seems willing
to come In on the long side, however,
ami trading seems to get lighter from
dev to day.
"The weather In the bolt continues
favorable, and the Southern shorts are
keeping the market well supplied with
bearish news. It Is something new to
aee the producing section trying as
hard to prevent higher prices, aa tt
ieema to be right now. The general
opinion la that the dullness will con
tinue for some time, unless thsrs Is a
crop scare."
